Studio Offerings

Each 50 minute small group lesson of up to 6 students has an individualized component and will consist of:

piano instruction, music theory, music history, proper piano technique and ear training. Group piano lessons can be scheduled for beginner and intermediate students only. Enrollment in group piano classes is an available option for children who are 5 years of age and older.

The benefit of this option is that all pianists will have the opportunity to play in ensembles, duets and trios.

Individual piano lesssons can be scheduled for students who are 4 years of age and older. All styles of music ranging from classical to contemporary are taught in my studio! Beginner, intermediate and advanced students
may enroll. Lesson lengths of 30, 45 and 60 minutes may be chosen depending on student level.

I have a tremendous love and respect of classical music. This stems from a deep understanding of how studying it positively impacts pianists. I am proud to come from a long line of teachers reaching back to Beethoven and Haydn. This musical genealogy informs my teaching. Students choosing to receive a strictly classical piano education will be taught to properly interpret pieces from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic
and Contemporary periods of music. Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Haydn, Satie and many other composers of classical music will be taught to students specializing in this style of music. Advanced beginners, intermediate and advanced students may choose this option

Students are taught how to improvise, transpose, arrange and harmonize music. Mastery of these skills leads to the ability to compose one's own music. As I have created a CD of my own compositions, I am able to teach others the process of how to compose their own music.

Students are taught how to identify melodic and harmonic intervals. This is the beginning of learning how to play by ear. The piano is used for melodic dictations (learning how to write melodies) and both the piano and drums are used for rhythmic dictations. I guide the student by positively reinforcing each step until mastered.

Proper piano technique is taught resulting in phenomenal performances! Students learn scales, chords and arpeggios relative to the pieces they are studying. They also learn proper finger, hand, wrist, arm and body positioning to achieve different effects.

Students have the option to participate in both formal and informal piano recitals every year.

Music theory is taught in this studio via music games. Board games and computer games are both utilized. It has been shown that students learn music theory concepts much more effectively through play.
